Digital Learning Resources
An unexpected surprise from my year-long fellowship with Teachers for Global Classrooms was how little I actually knew about the digital learning resources that are available to teachers. Many are free, and they have transformed my classroom. I could devote an entire website to the plethora of digital learning resources that can be used in the classroom, but this Padagogy Wheel was perhaps the single most helpful tool that I discovered during my coursework.
The Padagogy Wheel Model, designed by Allen Carrington, provides teachers with an at-hand reference that ties apps to specific learning outcomes directly connected to modern pedagogies and theories. I can easily sit with the wheel during lesson planning time to find tools that will best aid my students, or use it during class time to extend or deepen learning towards a specific 21st century skill or content area. This connection of theory, practice, and application makes the Padagogy Wheel an invaluable resource that I feel should be on every wall in every classroom. During the past year, I have especially used ThingLink, Edmodo and Padlet in the classroom, and have used Twitter and Instagram to connect with my students. During the upcoming year, I am planning to begin integrating some of the assessment apps such as Quizlet into my classroom. A downloadable, interactive model of the wheel is available on the linked site.
My Global Learning-Technology Pinterest Page also has many technology resources.
